Greg Vahl Named Resident of the Month For October 2020

Greg Vahl is The Bay of Suring’s Resident of the Month for October 2020. He was born at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on July 8, 1950 to Irvin and Frances Vahl. He has five siblings: Paula, Cathy, Carolyn, David, and Danny. Greg attended Holy Angels Catholic Church where he met his future wife, Jean. They were both members of the “Holy Angels Youth Choir” from 1969-1974.
Greg attended Holy Angels Grade School and Salvatorian Seminary which later became known as JFK Preparatory High School. After graduating in 1968, he went to University of Wisconsin-Madison where he earned a teaching degree. Greg studied Physical Education to teach disabled students.
Having difficulty finding employment in his field, Greg became a store manager for two Sentry stores in Milwaukee owned by Rudy and Nancy Penasa. Greg enjoyed working for the Penasas. He eventually became a store manager for a Save-A-Lot grocery store until his retirement.
Greg married his wife, Jean, on October 14, 1972 at Holy Angels Catholic Church. Jean and Greg had five children: Jennifer, Matthew, Brian, Julie, and Joanne. The couple also has eight grandchildren: Lucy, Josh, Aaron, Tyler, Bailey, Jenna, Maddox, and Ahren. “He is a kind and loving husband for 48 years and a wonderful father to his family,” Jean recounts of her husband.
Greg’s hobbies include fishing year-round, especially on fishing charters on Lake Michigan. Greg’s favorite hobby is music. He played bass guitar and singer for a wedding band named “Brillion.” He later played for a country/rock band named “Doubletake.”
